Belfield FM Returns to Campus (2000)
Belfield FM began broadcasting in 1990. It was originally established and supported under the structures of the Students’ Union. However, in 2009 a decision was taken by Eoghan Ó Braonáin (Station Manager) to seek financial independence from SU following their decision to significantly cut the Station’s funding.
In March 2012, Belfield FM was granted recognition by the UCD Societies Council to operate as a student society. The official name changed to ‘UCD Broadcasting Society’, but is still known as Belfield FM.
The station has had many homes over the years. A radio kiosk by the lake, a cabin at the original Student Centre car park, a studio at the old SU printing office (off the library tunnel) and now the yellow radio pod that sits over the Gallery Walk in the Student Centre.
